Record heat on Halloween in the mid-Hudson Valley. How hot it will be

Halloween is expected to see record temperatures, especially in the Poughkeepsie area, this year.

If trick-or-treating, Halloween parties or other seasonal celebrations are on your to-do list this week, expect warmer than normal temperatures.

Meteorologist Brett Rathbun of the National Weather Service’s Albany office said temperatures on Thursday, Oct. 31, will be “more like a summer day” than is normal at the end of October.

Additionally, most of the week will be dry, continuing a weeks-long dry spell in the mid-Hudson Valley region, according to meteorologist Bill Goodman of the National Weather Service office in New York. . “This unusual dry spell looks set to continue until further notice,” he said.

Halloween Weather Report 2024, Poughkeepsie and Middletown Areas

For the Poughkeepsie area, Halloween could bring a new temperature record, with the temperature forecast to be around or above 80 degrees, with a mostly sunny day.

“The best time to potentially break a record would be Halloween,” Rathbun said. “The current record on this day is 78 degrees; it was set in 1946.”

According to Rathbun, there is little to no chance of precipitation during the day and evening of Halloween, and even with rising temperatures, there is only a dew point in the 50s. “C “It’s actually still relatively comfortable for this time of year,” Rathbun said.

However, there is a chance of rain late tonight, with chances of precipitation after midnight in Poughkeepsie as well as Middletown.

However, in Middletown, it’s not expected to be as hot as the Poughkeepsie area for Halloween, with high temperatures in the upper 70s, but still “unusually warm for late October,” Goodman said.

Humidity in the Middletown area for Halloween won’t feel anything like summer, Goodman noted, but could instead resemble a day in early September.

Overall, expect Halloween to be unseasonably warm and sunny in the mid-Hudson Valley this year.

Poughkeepsie Forecast: October 29 – November 1, Plus Weekend Preview

Tuesday and Wednesday in the Poughkeepsie area see temperatures rise as the week progresses toward Halloween; Tuesday’s high temperature is expected to be in the mid 60s and Wednesday’s high temperature is expected to reach the mid 70s.

“We are going to enter another warming trend,” Rathbun said.

Additionally, Wednesday could be another day where the region sees record temperatures. The current record temperature in Poughkeepsie on Oct. 30 is 82 degrees, set in 1946. “We could be off by a few degrees,” Rathbun said.

Both days should be sunny, with more clouds on Tuesday. With a warm front arriving Tuesday evening, significantly increasing temperatures for Wednesday, there could be a slight chance of precipitation. .

“It certainly won’t do anything to improve the prolonged drought conditions we’re experiencing,” Rathbun said.

The other slight chance of showers forecast for Thursday evening will extend into Friday, “as another cold front passes through,” Rathbun said.

“This will bring temperatures a little closer to seasonal levels,” he continued.

Friday, besides a slight chance of rain, will be partly cloudy, with a high temperature of 69 degrees.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to return to normal fall temperatures, with a high near 58 degrees Saturday and cloudy skies and a high near 63 degrees Sunday, with mostly sunny skies.

Middletown Forecast: October 29 – November 1, Plus Weekend Preview

Similar to the Poughkeepsie area, Middletown has a slight chance of rain Tuesday evening as the warm front arrives. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 63 degrees, and Wednesday’s high is expected to reach the mid-70s.

Both days look to have some cloud cover so far, but there could also be some sunshine.

After a warm Halloween, a cold front is expected to arrive Thursday evening, dropping high temperatures Friday to normal. There is also a slight chance of rain Friday, but otherwise the day should be partly sunny, with temperatures near 65 degrees.

The first weekend of November will bring fall temperatures back to Middletown, with Saturday a high temperature near 57 degrees, with sunny skies, and Sunday a high temperature near 61 degrees, with mostly sunny skies.
