The country is worried about the outcome of the 2024 elections, amid increasingly bitter political divisions. Students in Asheville, North Carolina, return to school Monday after the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The World Series heads to New York tonight for Game 3.

Classrooms reopen in Asheville

Students in Asheville, North Carolina, return to class Monday after Tropical Storm Helene. The storm, which hit Sept. 27, closed Asheville City Schools for a month as the district grappled with lack of power, water and trauma experienced throughout the region. Asheville students face an uncertain path to recovery and rebuilding after dozens remain missing amid widespread communications and power outages. Learn more

It wasn’t McDonald’s beef

McDonald’s announced that Quarter Pounder burgers would return to restaurants affected by an E. coli outbreak. coli over the next week during a press briefing on Sunday. The company said the burgers would return to menus without chopped onions at the 900 restaurants that receive chopped onions from distributor Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility, where a Food and Drug Administration investigation is underway. UN Security Council to discuss Israeli strike on Iran

The United Nations Security Council is expected to meet on Monday to discuss Israel’s attack on Iran, diplomats said on Sunday. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called on the Security Council to meet over the attack and diplomats said the council would likely discuss the situation on Monday. The meeting comes after dozens of Israeli aircraft carried out three waves of pre-dawn strikes Saturday against missile factories and other sites near Tehran and in western Iran, the military said Israeli. These strikes were in retaliation for the Iranian missile attack on Israel on October 1.

Dodgers lead 2-0, but Ohtani is injured

If Shohei Ohtani can handle the pain, he will play in Game 3 of the World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday night at Yankee Stadium that he expects Ohtani to play in Monday night’s Game 3 if the slugger and leadoff hitter can tolerate the discomfort two days after suffering a subluxation of the left shoulder in Game 2 Saturday night.
