Irimaia Rokosawa, director general of the Land Transport Authority, warns the public to use discretion when interacting with law enforcement officers.

Rokosawa claims that obstructing an officer in the exercise of his duties constitutes an offense under section 75(5) of the Land Transport Act 1998.

It emphasizes that persons found guilty of such obstruction are liable to the sanctions provided for by law.

Rokosawa says it is essential to understand that law enforcement officers carry out their duties to ensure compliance with traffic laws and promote safer roads for all users.

The Act empowers the police or authorized officers to examine any motor vehicle or trailer reasonably suspected of being used in connection with an offense under the Act.

He says the law also allows officers to enter premises without a warrant if they believe the vehicle is there and remain on site for inspection purposes.

Rokosawa emphasizes that dangerous driving and non-compliance with traffic laws remain significant factors in road accidents.

The CEO says actions that hinder or interfere with their duties undermine the Authority’s ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents and save lives.
