Florida will experience freezing temperatures following a strong cold front through early next week.

Last week cold front was just a preview of what awaits Floridians during the Thanksgiving weekend as a blast of cold air will hit the northeastern United States and be felt all the way down the coast to southern Florida.

“The cold snap will resemble that of January and will provide a significant shock to hundreds of millions of people who may have become accustomed to warm conditions for much of the fall,” he added. AccuWeather said Paul Pastelok, senior long-range meteorologist.

While the Northeast will take the brunt of the effects, temperatures in Florida will dip into the upper 20s and lower 30s throughout Northwest Florida, potentially prompting a frost warning Sunday evening, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Florida Panhandle will see freezing temperatures Thanksgiving weekend

The National Weather Service’s latest forecast for parts of the Florida Panhandle shows temperatures in the 30s, but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

According to the NWS forecast, a much colder and drier air mass will move into the region Friday through Tuesday. The cold front will plunge high temperatures into the 50s while lows will hover between the upper 20s and lower 30s.

There is a risk of frost and freeze in areas that have not yet experienced such conditions. These temperatures could result in a freeze watch or warning, issued when temperatures reach between 24 and 32 degrees for at least two hours.

What is a freeze warning/watch? What’s the difference?

Frost warnings and watches are similar to any other type of weather-related warning. In this case, that means temperatures are expected to drop below 32 degrees for at least a few hours, according to the NWS.

A warning warrants more immediate action than a watch. If there is a frost warning, you should bring all plants indoors and take all necessary steps to prevent plumbing from freezing.

A frost watch indicates that you should prepare for the possibility of widespread freezing temperatures in the next 24 to 36 hours.

THE 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is scheduled to end on November 30. It was initially presented as a “supercharged” year, with forecasters predicting as many as 20 to 25 named storms.

An unprecedented lull at the start of the season spared us the full extent of these predictions after a period of Saharan dust played an important role in limiting storm development in the Atlantic through August.

Yet the 2024 hurricane season has been anything but calm. Activity in the tropics accelerated rapidly in mid-September and never stopped. Hurricanes FrancineHélène and Isaac formed in September and October saw hurricanes Kirk, Leslie, Milton, Nadine and Oscar.

This was the first hurricane season since 2019 in which multiple Category 5 hurricanes occurred in a single season.

Despite a relatively calm July and August, the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season still managed to spawn 18 named storms, including 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes. A typical season sees about 14 named storms, seven of which become hurricanes and three of which become major hurricanes.
