Bayer Leverkusen in talks with Florian Wirtz over contract renewal

PICTURE Bayer Leverkusen are reported to be in talks with Florian Wirtz’s entourage to extend the player’s contract beyond 2027 following interest from European giants Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Arsenal.

Hans Wirtz, Florian’s father, has been at the forefront of the negotiations but, according to the report, discussions are also taking place with Karin Groß, the star’s mother, who has a “very close and trusting relationship” with Florian Wirtz.

We know that Wirtz is going to leave Bayer Leverkusen at some point. But with a Bundesliga title and appearance in the Champions League this season, the player’s immediate future is at the BayArena.

PICTURE further report that Bayer 04 CEO Fernando Carro and sporting director Simon Rolfes want to extend Wirtz’s contract for at least one year, which has been communicated to the player’s family.

If Wirtz was sold after the 2026 World Cup, Carro has already stated that Wirtz could fetch a transfer fee of at least €150 million. But if the 21-year-old doesn’t agree to a one-year extension, it’s possible Wirtz could be sold in 2025 to avoid the risk of the player’s price falling.

But with a pay rise, Bayer Leverkusen bosses are confident Wirtz will sign a new deal.
