As for Liverpool, the Reds were excellent against Real Madrid in the Champions League and sit top of the new league stage format with five wins from their opening five matches. Slot’s men are having a great season, having galloped to the top of the Premier League with 10 wins out of 12 as well.

Speaking after the win against Real, Slot said: “I really liked what I saw. Of course not everything. I think we controlled the first half creating a few chances, but I also thought we were still a little sloppy, so we lost the ball in very easy situations or we forced it a little too much.

“I said, ‘Try to be more patient, let the gaps widen instead of forcing them.’ Then it helps if in the first seven minutes after halftime we had total domination, even though they didn’t cross the halfway line. If you score a goal like that then we were flying. if you mean like that.”
