Salvation Army serves Thanksgiving meals to community

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – Salvation Army volunteers in Waco came together to serve a hot meal to the community in need.

In addition to providing free food and warm clothing, longtime volunteers like Scott and Sandra Hedges say they want to provide a safe space for anyone who enters.

“Not everyone who comes here is homeless, I mean there are a lot of people who just don’t have family or the resources to provide for Thanksgiving, so this is a safe outlet for them ” said Scott Hedges.

Families can volunteer together, teaching future generations the importance of giving back.

Young volunteers, like Christopher and Corban Crenshaw, who volunteered with their cousin Aaron, encourage others to step up to help others during the holidays.

“It’s the right thing to do, don’t just worry about yourself, but also others and make sure their needs are taken care of.”

Waco Salvation Army Corps Officer Maj. Jeff Miracle says their staff, volunteers and community cherish the camaraderie they have together.

“No one deserves to be alone on a day like today and this is a great opportunity for these people to meet other volunteers and our staff and have some great camaraderie together,” said Major Miracle.
