Greaty British Bake Off winner Georgie Grasso revealed her chicken Fanny suffered from a mystery illness as she appeared on spin-off show Extra Slice. The Welsh baker and pediatric nurse had presented Channel 4 viewers to Fanny at the start of the competition when she decided to dedicate her illusion cake to capturing her feathery image.

Judge Prue Leith remarked that the cake had “real personality”, while Paul Hollywood said the idea had “paid off”, praising the detail of its feathers.

As Georgie appeared on Extra Slice to discuss her win, host Jo Brand asked: “How’s Fanny?” George revealed: “She has a rash at the moment, we don’t know what’s wrong with her.”

Host Jo Brand was also asked what the hardest part of the finale was for her. Georgie admitted: “I put it (hung the cake) on this stand. So at one point I was climbing on the desk to put it on.”

She said she would never make a hanging cake again. After her win, Georgie said: “It’s crazy! I won it, I can’t believe it. It’s just incredible. I can’t believe I won. Great British pastry. This means everything, I have always been very skeptical. I have this and that wrong with me and I think I can’t do it, and you make excuses. For once, I thought I was going to go for it and put everything I could into it. I’m so proud of myself because I proved I could do it, and now I’m here today, the winner!”
