“Building Relationships, Creating Traditions:” Chapin Pumpkin Patch Gives Back to Community Through Fall Tradition

CHAPIN, SC (WIS) – Fall is here, and that means pumpkins, costumes, and “Skelly the Ghost Dog.” All the sights you can see when visiting the Ghost Dog Pumpkin Patch in Chapin.

Owner Rodney Spiers said this is his first year operating a pumpkin patch, but it’s the start of what he hopes will be a long-lasting tradition.

“I had no idea we would do this much good and it’s because of Skelly here, not because of me,” Spiers said.

Spiers wanted this pumpkin patch to be a way to give back to the community, which is why he is donating 10 percent of the profits to Pawmetto Lifeline.

“It’s all about the kids and fundraising, other than that it’s not about making money or anything like that. It’s about seeing the kids having fun, listening to “Monster Mash” and things like that. And being able to make a huge donation to Pawmetto Lifeline,” Spiers said.

Spiers is passionate about finding homes for abandoned dogs, which is why Pawmetto Lifeline holds a special place in his heart. Over the years, Spiers has adopted dogs who may not have much time left, but he provides them with a loving home and fun work.

“I always get the oldest and ugliest one. They only last about two years, so turnover is quick. So I figured the best way to give back was to have my dog or two work for me! »

Beyond donating to Pawmetto Lifeline, Spiers is offering first responders and linemen who helped during the recent storm recovery a free pumpkin as a thank you for their service. He said giving back to the community is how he can live out his company’s motto.

“Build relationships, create traditions. So that’s what we’re trying to do,” Spiers said. “It’s amazing and it makes me feel good inside and at the same time, being able to donate to Pawmetto Lifeline is doubly amazing!”

People can visit the pumpkin patch at 2122 Dutch Fork Road in Chapin.
