Jonathan Toews takes stock of an unorthodox “healing” treatment.

The former Chicago Blackhawks captain has given an update on the unorthodox treatment he received in what he described as his “healing journey.”

On Sunday morning, former Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews shared an update on the situation on his Instagram account. “Panchakarma” treatment he is receiving in India in the form of a long message as well as several photos illustrating the treatment he is currently undergoing. While it certainly doesn’t sound like any type of treatment one would expect when it comes to Western medicine, Toews seems to be taking to the treatment well and has had nothing but positive words to share about his experience so far.

Here is Toews’ message, unedited and in its entirety:

Thank you everyone for the supportive comments and text messages I received. If you have experienced similar struggles, I hope this post gives you some hope and that you feel the need to look into it.

The 5 week Panchakarma at @ayurvedayogavilla was a chore, but it made me feel much lighter and revitalized. Beyond the detox cures, the most powerful aspect was being surrounded by extraordinary people who have a completely different culture and lifestyle. It became easy to see that I was burning the candle at both ends.

I now consider it a great blessing to have overcome these challenges. It’s crazy to feel this level of gratitude for the little things, but what seems even crazier is forgetting that this feeling should be normal. I feel like my body has returned to factory settings.

If you can’t travel to India at @ayurvedayogavilla there is a ton of information about Ayurveda and different Panchakarma treatments on their Insta and website. Even the smallest changes are steps in the right direction.

You can scroll through several photos shared by Toews this morning in the Instagram post just below:

Toews previously revealed his decision to pursue the treatment just over a week ago in another Instagram post in which he shared more information about the nature of the treatment.

From Toews:

As some of you may know, I have been on a bit of a healing journey. I’ve had many ups and downs, brief moments of hope while working with a whole bunch of different doctors and modalities, followed by doubts about whether things could get better. But I recently spent 5 weeks in India doing an Ayurvedic detox called Panchakarma, and I’m happy to say things are trending.

Ayurveda translates to “Knowledge of Life” and has been the science of healing in India for over 5,000 years. This system views our body as a delicate ecosystem, influenced by everything we consume: energy, information, thoughts, feelings and food. In short, it teaches that our health can thrive when we learn to simplify our lives, create a space of calm, and better align ourselves with the rhythms of nature. A Panchakarma is a healing protocol designed to restore your health by cleansing and releasing toxins stored deep within the body.

It’s too long a story to share all the details here, but I’ve been searching for almost 5 years for a way to cure the inflammatory and immune issues that caused me to quit hockey. The wisdom of Ayurveda taught me that I am responsible for everything I experience. Not only did it teach me better food choices specific to my body type, but it deepened my intuitive relationship with myself and the world around me.

Toews also shared several photos with this message which you can see just below.

Toews has given no indication that he plans to resume his National Hockey League career after it was derailed by medical issues, but perhaps this will help him feel more comfortable in his everyday life.
