Man Utd 4-0 Everton: Has Ruben Amorim brought back the feel-good factor?

Despite winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, the Red Devils appeared to lack any sort of identity under Ten Hag’s haphazard style, finishing eighth last season, their lowest finish in the Premier League.

But Amorim’s 3-5-2 system, which has brought Sporting so much success, is starting to take shape at United, with diligent counter-pressing instilled into the system.

Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both scored twice, punishing Everton’s individual errors, while Amad Diallo was a constant thorn in the side’s side.

United have moved up to ninth in the table and are already eyeing a place in next season’s Champions League – they are just four points behind Brighton in fourth.

Amorim drew Ipswich in their first match, beat Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday and picked up another win here. But Rashford, for his part, is not getting carried away.

“The energy and the atmosphere speaks for itself,” Rashford told BBC Match of the Day. “It’s up to the players to create that in the stadium, but the fans today… that’s what we want to hear: nothing but positivity and pushing the fans forward.”

“He (Ruben Amorim) is certainly demanding, but he is encouraged to bring his strengths into the game. That’s when you get a really good team performance.

“I hope we can build on that and keep pushing. There’s nothing to get too excited about. We have to keep pushing every day to meet his demands.”

It was the first of nine games in a difficult December for Amorim and United and with limited training time during this period, his skills will be put to the test with trips to Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at come.
