Janey Godley ‘forgave everyone’ but Donald Trump

Janey Godley died last month “but she still believed until her death that Trump was a mile away from anyone who should come close to power.” The Very Reverend Kelvin Holdsworth, provost of St Mary’s Cathedral, spoke at her funeral and rather slyly worked on one of her most famous sayings, much to the delight of the mourners.

Janey Godley forgave a lot of people before her death, but she still criticized Donald Trump. At the comedian’s funeral this morning, a priest spoke about conversations he had with Janey in recent days.

Hundreds of colorfully dressed mourners gathered at St Mary’s Cathedral, Great Western Road, Glasgow on Saturday morning to say their final goodbyes to the late comedian.

And the Very Reverend Kelvin Holdsworth, provost of St Mary’s Cathedral, recounted his meetings with Janey, who died after a battle with ovarian cancer earlier this month. During the service, Rev Holdsworth mentioned a particularly amusing conversation he had with Janey about the controversial US president-elect.

Speaking during his service, he said: “Janey, knowing she was dying, made lists of people to forgive and that is what true religion and true humanity are made of. Janey had a lot to forgive, bad things had been done to her, I asked her how she was going to do that.

“She said she was going to forgive everyone, including everyone who attended the funeral, because her love was greater than anything anyone could have done to her and, by the way, that means a lot love.

“I said ‘Really Janey? Everyone? Can you really forgive everyone? She said ‘yes everyone,’ I said ‘what about American politics? Have you Have you changed your mind about this?’ My friends, Janey Godley died having forgiven everyone, but she always believed until her death that Trump was a mile away from anyone who should come near power.

The priest’s comments sent mourners bursting into laughter as they recalled Janey’s viral “Trump is a b***h” protest. The comedian was one of many people who gathered to protest Trump’s Turnberry golf course in 2018.
