Relatives and supporters of Mamta Kafle Bhatt, the Manassas Park mother who has been missing since late July, went to her husband’s court hearing on Tuesday, which was ultimately postponed until Wednesday.

“Mamta deserves for us to fight for her for as long as it takes,” said Holly Wirth, Mamta’s friend and former colleague.

Naresh Bhatt was supposed to appear in court Tuesday on new charges brought by a grand jury Monday of murder and physical desecration of a corpse, but a Nepali interpreter was not available. The judge postponed the case until Wednesday, when an interpreter was already scheduled for Naresh’s preliminary hearing on his original charge of hiding a corpse.

“We’re certainly asking for prayers for the family, knowing that this is a moment of realization that we were hoping would happen, but now that it’s here, there’s a lot of emotion around it,” Wirth said.

“There is tremendous sadness knowing that the grand jury actually saw that there was probable cause to impose these additional charges,” she added.

Wirth and other supporters said they would be back in court Wednesday morning when Naresh is expected to answer to the new charges.
