Identify the weather alert day Wednesday for the first severe frost of the season

DENVER (KDVR) – Big changes are afoot Weather in Denver forecast. A specific weather warning day has been issued for Wednesday.

Colder temperatures will bring mountain snow and a wintry mix to the Denver metro area Wednesday morning, followed by the first severe freeze of the season Wednesday evening.

Weather tonight: showers, colder

Tuesday evening, showers will begin to move from the mountains into the Front Range. Moisture will be limited with this system, but as temperatures approach freezing, rain showers will begin to mix with snow Wednesday morning.

Weather tomorrow: showers, much cooler

Wednesday will begin with snow showers in the mountains and a wintry mix of cold rain and snow in the Denver area.

Snow accumulations will be limited to higher elevations and grassy areas while lows will drop near freezing in the metro.

Winter weather advisories continue through Wednesday evening for higher elevations due to difficult travel due to new snow on roads limiting traction and blowing snow that could limit visibility.

Showers will clear out in the evening, leaving behind clouds and much cooler temperatures. Highs in Denver will only reach the mid-40s, which is 15 degrees below normal for this time of year.

Future outlook: seasonal conditions

A frost warning is expected to be in place from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning as low temperatures drop to 20 degrees. This will be the first hard freeze of the season, and cold enough that it will be important to protect exposed plants, pipes or plumbing from the cold.

Sunshine returns to the forecast Thursday, and after a cold start to the day, Halloween is on track to reach a seasonal high around 60 degrees.

For fun Thursday night, there will be a seasonal chill in the air as temperatures drop into the 40s after sunset.

On Friday and through the weekend, temperatures will be only a few degrees above normal, starting with a low in the 30s, then climbing to a high in the low to mid 60s.
