Disappointing end to season for O’Gorman at FIM JuniorGP in Estoril – South London News

Erith motorcycle rider Casey O’Gorman endured a racing encounter he would rather forget as he suffered two DNFs during the final round of the FIM JuniorGP World Championship at Estoril last week.

The 17-year-old placed his Honda 250cc Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 at the head of the third row, seventh for the start of the first of two 16-lap races at the Portuguese circuit.

Ten laps later, while he was firmly in the lead group, a brake failure caused a collision with another driver who was finishing his race looking to the sides.

O’Gorman’s luck was no better in the second race after he was caught in a battle which saw him fall from the lead pack. He fought his way back into the lead group only to be hit by another rider and sent into another crash.

O’Gorman said on his social media page: “Definitely not the way I wanted to end 2024.”

“In the first race, while fighting in the leading group, I had a brake failure at turn 13, which caused me to hit the back of another driver to whom I apologized after the race, but there was nothing I could have done.

“In the second race, after some early fights, we lost contact with the leading group, but I never gave up and gradually closed the gap. When I got to the front group, another rider touched my rear tire, which caused me to gain the upper hand.

“Thank you to @teamestrellagalicia00 for all their work this year, we had our ups and downs but no matter what, they believed in me.

“Now it’s time to rest a little and start preparing for next year.”

O’Gorman finished his first year in the championship in eleventh place with 76 points, 81 behind new champion Alvaro Carpe.
