Arab League postpones urgent meeting of foreign ministers on Syria and Palestine

CAIRO

The Arab League decided on Thursday to postpone an urgent meeting of foreign ministers on Syria.

The meeting, initially scheduled for Sunday, also planned to discuss the situation in Palestine, a statement said.

“The emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers, scheduled for next Sunday at the headquarters of the Arab League Secretariat, has been postponed to a later date,” said the official Egyptian news agency MENA.

It was initially planned in response to a joint request from Syria and Palestine, with the aim of addressing the current situation in Syria and the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories.

On November 30, anti-regime groups in Syria captured much of central Aleppo following a rapid advance from the western countryside.

The groups also seized the town of Khan Shaykhun, taking near-total control of Idlib province.

The opposition Syrian National Army launched Operation Dawn of Freedom on December 1 to counter PKK/YPG attempts to establish a terrorist corridor linking Tel Rifaat to northeastern Syria. Amid attacks against the Syrian Assad regime, the PKK/YPG terrorist group seeks to exploit the murky security situation to establish a terror corridor.

During its 40-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union – was responsible for the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women , children, infants and the elderly.

The YPG is a branch of the PKK in Syria, the scene of current fighting and an area where the group has been trying for years to establish a terrorist corridor along the Turkish border.

In recent years, Turkey has deployed troops and worked with local allies such as the SNA to prevent this and protect the local population from terrorist oppression.
