Gemini gets split-screen shortcut on Android tablets and foldable phones

Google’s generative AI service, Gemini, now has a shortcut that lets you quickly access split-screen to multitask on Android tablets and foldable. The feature was introduced earlier on Samsung’s latest foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 6And it’s now making its way to foldables and tablets other manufacturers running Android. The Gemini overlay adds a handle bar centered on the top edge of your screen. You can then drag this and have the chatbot side by side with the app you are using. The chatbot can be positioned on the left, right, top or bottom of your screen.

This feature is especially handy if you’re watching a video or reading something and need quick information from the generative AI chatbot.

For the moment, the split-screen shortcut has been spotted on the Pixel Tabletas well as the Pixel folding. Previously, the handy shortcut was only available when using Gemini on certain Samsung devices. However, it is not displayed on Android Phones so far, this indicates that the feature may be reserved for larger screen devices like tablets and foldables. Gemini has recently received many useful updates to meet the demands of the growing interest in generative AI. We currently have Gemini extensions available for most Google apps for easy access and interaction with the chatbot.

On top of that, Google is also working on many features for the upcoming chatbot, including the chatbot’s very useful ability to answer calls from the lock screen (which is still in development).

Personally, I like being able to multitask with Gemini, especially when watching a video – I sometimes tend to want references to what I’m watching. The shortcut for tablets and foldable devices is a great addition, given that these large-screen devices are generally better for multitasking anyway.
