GBI Adds Flavor to RBL High School Football League

GUYANA Beverages Incorporated (GBI), through its popular soft drinks brand Busta, has added its support to the Republic Bank Limited (RBL) Secondary Schools Football League.
In a simple ceremony at Great Diamond headquarters, the company offered its unwavering support to the school league which is played every Sunday at the Ministry of Education grounds.
The 5th edition of the tournament features 8 school teams, namely Waramuri top from region 1, Bartica Secondary from region 7, President’s College from region 4 as well as South Ruimveldt, Chase Academy, East Ruimveldt, West Ruimveldt and Dolphin Secondary from Georgetown .
Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca was grateful for the beverage company’s support of the league, saying: “We are always happy and, in this case, delighted to have GBI Guyana Beverage Inc on our side, to Mr. Arjoon and his Dear Leaders, we want you to know that your contribution not only to the conduct of the tournament but also adds to the value of the young people involved in this tournament.

He added that this format allows for better growth and understanding of the game of school teams, continuing: “This tournament, regardless of the landscape, is a development because most teams play a league format, playing in a league format helps them play at least seven games in the tournament…….and it’s also good that it takes place at the beginning of the school year because you have the opportunity to develop your team to participate in other tournaments.
SM Jaleel, the parent company of Busta, through Marketing Director Andre Noel, was excited to celebrate the partnership with the Petra organization.

“We believe this partnership amplifies our shared commitment to the growth and development of sport in Guyana and the Caribbean. At the regional level, SM Jaleel is honored to play a role. At SM Jaleel, our commitment to sport in the Caribbean is long-standing; this heritage extends not only to cricket but also to football, we are very passionate about football, especially in this country.

“We have been able to see partnerships flourish even in the elite league, so we are anchored in Guyana and we continue to be anchored in Guyana with athletes of all ages, so when Petra Organization came to us to sponsor the football in schools, we recognize It is evident that this is a mutually beneficial opportunity that supports not only the goals of Petra but also the dreams of all these young athletes in Guyana,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Samuel Arjoon, Managing Director of Guyana Beverages Inc, said it was an honor for GBI to play this pivotal role in improving the sport in Guyana.
“I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the Petra organization for the work they have been doing for several years and we have a good relationship, but this relationship did not happen by chance and I want to share it with the clubs and organizations in terms of sponsorship and what we are looking for, it is quite simple but in my opinion it is something difficult to achieve in the sporting field in Guyana,” Arjoon maintained.

In the final round of Bartica Secondary, Chase Academy and Waramuri Secondary, their Republic Bank Limited Schools U18 Football League campaign was launched with two incredible victories on Sunday.
Action resumes Sunday with four more battles.
