New England braces for light weekend snowstorm as mower arrives

The interesting part about this new clipper system is that instead of following a cold snap like Friday, a warm front will actually transition to a more southerly wind flow and create a somewhat mild Sunday afternoon compared to the last days.

This storm will slide into the region from the northwest after a generally calm Saturday and will move east-southeast very quickly. This will be a minor event and should be out of sight and out of mind by mid-morning Sunday.

THE first mower system we saw Wednesday night into Thursday strengthening as it approached the coast and may have amplified a bit – we felt it with the wind. This next storm will lack a real moisture boost, bringing only widespread light snow showers to most of New England and wind speeds won’t have too much of an impact.

7 p.m. – 10 p.m. — A few scattered peak snow showers will occur across western New England. By 10 a.m., Vermont, western Massachusetts and western Connecticut should see light and steady snow falling. A few scattered snow showers will occur across New Hampshire and central Massachusetts.

10:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. — Light snow and flurries continue to fall across New England, now extending across all of New Hampshire, most of Maine and all of southern New England. Coastal areas, including from Boston to Providence and south to the Cape, may fluctuate between snow showers and cold rain.

Overnight — Most of the front advances through the region and the immediate coast and south of Mass Pike transitions to mostly rain showers. Meanwhile, all of Maine and New Hampshire continue to receive light snow, with activity beginning to decrease in Vermont and Western Mass.

Sunday

6 a.m. – 9 a.m. — This system fades out fairly quickly with a few lingering rain or snow showers before high pressure begins to dissipate clouds and establish warmer temperatures. Boston will see afternoon high temperatures reach lows into the mid-40s as the wind finally calms down.

Most of Maine will see steady snow begin to taper off around 9 a.m., while the storm will end in Boston and the rest of New England before 8 or 9 a.m.

Northern New England

This will be a light snow event only for residents of northern New England, with southern Vermont, New Hampshire and coastal Maine likely seeing only about an inch of snow. As you begin to enter the White and Green Mountains, the totals will increase by 3 or 5 inches, depending on elevation.

Southern New England

The main warm front is expected to keep snow totals around an inch across Massachusetts. Boston could see a few snowflakes, especially overnight, but snow will likely fall west of I-95 and north of I-90 and I-84. Cape Town, Providence and southern Hartford are expected to experience only light rain showers. Rainfall totals are expected to remain less than a quarter of an inch.

Temperatures on Saturday are expected to hover in the mid 30s with slightly relaxed winds.
