Ukraine confirms second Danish F-16 delivery as Zelensky seeks support in Paris

Kyiv – Denmark delivered a second batch of F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday as he traveled to Paris to meet senior politicians and dignitaries.

In a message on Telegram, Zelensky praised Denmark and lamented the lack of dedication from other allies.

“The first batch of planes supplied by the Danes are already shooting down Russian missiles: thus saving our population and our infrastructure. Now our air shield is further strengthened,” he said. “If all partners had been so determined, we could have made Russian terrorism impossible. »

The announcement comes as Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region marks a day of mourning for the 10 people killed in a Russian attack on Friday. Twenty-four other people, including two children, were injured when a missile hit a local gas station, regional governor Ivan Fedorov said.

Three more people were killed in a strike on the Ukrainian town of Kryvy Rih on Friday, Ukraine’s emergency service said.

Regarding the attacks, Zelenskyy said Russian President Vladimir Putin was not seeking “real peace.”

Putin “only seeks to be able to treat any country this way, with bombs, missiles and all other forms of violence,” Zelensky said. “Only by force can we resist this. And only through force can true peace be established.”

Zelensky is scheduled to meet other world leaders on Saturday, including the French president Emmanuel Macronduring an event in Paris celebrating the renovation of Notre-Dame Cathedral after a devastating fire in 2019.

US President-elect Donald Trump is among those expected, with European leaders keen to cultivate the new leader’s favor to persuade him to maintain his support for Ukraine against the three-year-old Russian invasion. It is unclear whether Trump will meet with Zelensky. ___
