The CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards (IBLA) marked its 20th edition on December 7, 2024 in Mumbai.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged all ministers to ensure that they achieve their respective capital expenditure targets. Investments are essential to boost economic growth and build long-term infrastructure for the country.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18 IBLA 2024 in Mumbai, Goyal also stressed that now is the time to start a discussion on the separation of food prices and inflation.

Goyal also said the Indian economy remained robust, attributing the slowdown in GDP to the lagged effect of the election period. He further highlighted that India is poised to remain the fastest growing economy in the world.

Empowerment and development of women

Goyal said the Prime Minister spoke about women-led development and his vision to empower women and sisters. For too long, the remarkable work done by women has gone unrecognized, even though they have played a phenomenal role in shaping our society. By directing resources and opportunities to women, we aim to empower them and enable them to play an even greater role in India’s growth.

State fiscal responsibility

Goyal added that the government is committed to ensuring sound fiscal management, unlike states like Himachal Pradesh, Telangana or Karnataka, where weak fiscal policies have led to troubling situations. These examples highlight the importance of responsible governance to ensure sustainable growth.

India-US Partnership

Goyal added: “Our partnership with the United States goes far beyond mere numbers. It is strategic, deep and rooted in mutual trust and shared values.

He added that the exceptional friendship between the Prime Minister and President Trump is a testament to this bond.
