Fans think Glenn’s death is the moment Walking Dead fell off a cliff, but I think it happened much earlier, and that’s why

Alright…we need to talk about this.

I am the greatest The Walking Dead apologist. When I started watching this show, I was Really to zombies as a genre, and over time it evolved into a loyalty to that genre. Walking death universe it was pretty hard to beat.

But I saw again The Walking Dead countless times, the eleven seasonsand all the spinoffs, and I have to say my knowledge of this series has increased tenfold, as has my perception of when this series really fell off a cliff and how I feel about certain seasons.

Many have said that Glenn’s death in the season 7 premiere was the beginning of the end, but after my last rewatch, I personally think it was. path sooner – or at least at the very beginning of the end. Let’s see why.

Glenn’s death had a huge impact, and I recognize that

I will begin this article by agreeing that Glenn’s death was impactful, and no one says otherwise. Seriously, I was destroyed.

I still remember the moment it happened. It was my second month at university. I was lying on a small twin bed in my dorm room with my little 30 inch TV, snuggled in my boyfriend’s arms, both of us sobbing our hearts out as Negan brought the bat down on Glenn’s head. It was a truly world-changing television moment that I will never forget.

Glenn was one of my favorite characters – hell, he was everyone favorite character. He had a great moral compass, a sense of humor and, on top of that, he was a badass. Her Walking death relationship with Maggie still has its impact long after she’s gone. His death is probably the most heartbreaking Walking death death There is.

However, I still don’t think the series started to fall apart at that point. I agree that there was a big drop in viewership afterward, but I think the seeds of doom were sown a few seasons in advance, and you might be surprised where I place them.

However, I think it was in the second half of season 4 that things started to fall apart.

Now listen to me.

Again, as I said in the introduction, I am a strong believer TWD apologist. A lot previous seasons are great television. The first three are almost perfect and tell complete storylines without stretching the plot too much.

I thought seasons 4 and 5 were pretty much the same. But my opinion has really changed now.

The first half of season 4 goes well, if not a bit slow. We’re still reeling from the Governor’s attack at the end of Season 3 and sort of waiting for him to attack again, while the prison is dealing with an illness. After the intense mid-season finale, we see our group split into different storylines, meeting different people, all trying to get to the same place: Terminus.

Don’t get me wrong. There are some great episodes in the second half of season 4. I think “The Grove” features an incredible performance from Melissa McBride and constitutes an essential marker on Timeline of Carol in the series. The episode that focuses on Beth and Daryl is also good.

However, through a few good episodes, there are others that…seem to be filler or a way to introduce a new character who might die in the next season or not be as important as expected.

Even with the good episodes, most go nowhere. There’s some excellent character development and good storylines, but many tend to fall flat as the series goes on…which brings me to season 5.

It was really in the first half of season 5 that I realized that this series was not the same

Season 5 of TWD This is where things really started to change.

The first episode, where Rick and the team take out Terminus and Carol remotely blows him up, is a great way to start the season, but then it kind of fades. We lose Bob after one season because, of course we do – we can never have anyone alive for too long on this show if it’s not Daryl or Carol.

The cannibal story also ends very quickly, and I could see that it lasts for a while. long time in this world. But the biggest offender? Spending the entire first half of season 5 focusing on Beth and trying to find the survivor, only for her to be killed off in the mid-season finale for shock value.

I get that it is The Walking Dead, but for most of the series up to this point, none of the main characters actually died from shock. Most had a reason why they were killed or died as heroes – hell, even Blackbird died in a relatively heroic manner. Beth died in the the stupidest It’s possible after spending so many episodes learning to love her and looking forward to what she would do next. Only for her to stab Dawn and get shot in the head and have it all go down the drain.

Hell, it didn’t even matter in the end because the only person she was literally killed for – Noah – dies a few episodes later! What happened to storytelling? To things meaning something? This is my biggest problem here. And season 5 was just the beginning.

Then season 6 came and I knew it wasn’t going in the right direction

Do you know what people are calling season 5 of Community gas leak season? I see TWD Season 6 like this. The season isn’t horrible – at least not as bad as seasons 7 and 8 – but it’s not great and so boring.

Season 6, after being rewatched, has only a few very good episodes, one of them being the Morgan-centric episode– but most of the series simply no longer holds a candle to previous episodes. At first it’s just a matter of trying to take out a group of walkers. We have a whole season of teasing Negan, only for him to not show up until the finale. We see that there is more to the world, but most of the new characters, aside from Jesus and Aaron, are SO forgettable.

It’s just not that great, now that I think about it…and then the Season 7 premiere with Glenn’s death happened and put the final nail in the coffin.

The series got back on track, but these few seasons took their toll

I will say that TWD got up. Personally, I really liked seasons 9 to 11. They did relatively good storytelling there. I also enjoyed the spin-offs. As Daryl Dixon’s daughter, I have been caught up with The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 (although I didn’t like that there was a death in it, but that’s okay).

I can’t wait to Ghost town Season 2 as part of TV schedule 2025. I was a big fan of Those who survived.

But man…these few seasons have taken a toll on the flagship series.

TWD still has a relatively large fan base for a cable TV show, enough for the spinoffs to continue and people to tune in to watch them, like me. But long gone are the days of fans gathering on Twitter, YouTube, or the like to discuss the most important thing that happened in this week’s episode, because it just didn’t feel the same over the following seasons.

It’s a shame, because I really think this series could have become one of the greatest of all time. Like most shows like this, we had too much of a good thing and it didn’t last. At least now I have a different perspective on it.
