With its new product Topsky – UAS powered by AstraUTM, Thales will provide a secure and scalable digital platform for automated UTM and future AAM (Advanced Airspace Mobility). This system will effectively manage air traffic near airports and metropolitan, suburban and regional areas, providing capabilities such as compliance monitoring, authorization management, real-time decision making, continuous monitoring of airspace, automated conflict resolution and rapid response to dynamic conditions.

Ensuring safety and compliance in Norwegian skies

Avinor’s new UTM system aims to provide essential services to various stakeholders, including drone operators, air traffic service providers (ATSPs), government agencies and other key management stakeholders in Norway low altitude airspace. The system will meet the regulatory standards specified in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/664, as well as the acceptable means of compliance and guidance documents for the management of U-space, ensuring that all services meet the highest standards of security and operational transparency.

This UTM system will integrate safe, efficient and predictable access services such as Common Information Service (CIS) and U-space Service Provider (USSP) provisions, ensuring full regulatory compliance in U-designated airspaces. -space.

Enabling effective UAS operations nationwide

Through the implementation and management of a nationwide UTM system, Norway will benefit from robust unmanned traffic management solutions that meet the diverse requirements of civil and government stakeholders. The system will provide advanced real-time data sharing, streamlined and automated airspace access and improved situational awareness to enable large-scale operations in the dynamic Norwegian airspace environment for all manned and unmanned airspace operators.

“We are honored to collaborate with Avinor to bring this national UTM system to life in Norway, prioritizing safety, innovation and, of course, regulatory alignment. With Avinor, we embrace the development of BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) services in non-segregated airspace, enabling technologies that make it simple and economical to achieve safe, repeatable and scalable commercial UAS operations . Our UTM solutions, recently enhanced with AstraUTM, a Thales company, reflect this. Thales’ commitment to advancing airspace management and laying the foundations for safe and integrated air mobility,” said Christian Rivierre, Vice-President Airspace Mobility Solutions, Thales.

“At Avinor, we are proud to actively contribute to the development of unmanned aviation in Norway. The partnership with Thales on this next generation UTM system reflects our commitment to advancing unmanned operations in Norwegian airspace. This system will support Avinor’s role in ensuring the safety and effective integration of drones, ensuring surveillance and responsible management of airspace. We are delighted to work with Thales as a strategic partner to deliver a solution that benefits all airspace users and supports air traffic services in drone management. operations,” declared Mats Bye Gjertsen, Vice President of Avinor Drone Program.
