Hyundai India plans to roll out 600 fast chargers for electric vehicles across the country

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has revealed plans to establish around 600 public fast charging stations for electric vehicles across the country over the next seven years. Under this initiative, the company aims to operationalize 50 stations by December 2024. The move reflects Hyundai’s strong focus on promoting sustainable transportation and is expected to significantly contribute to India’s transition to cleaner energy solutions.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has supported over 50,000 EV charging sessions, providing over 7.30 lakh units of energy to 10,000 EV users, including Hyundai and non-Hyundai customers -Hyundai. Strengthening its commitment to green mobility, HMIL has partnered with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 electric vehicle charging stations across the state by 2027. Under the plan, 10 stations are expected to be operational by the end of 2024, three of which are already operational. at Spencer Plaza, BSR Mall in Chennai and Seasons Hotel in Tiruvannamalai. The remaining seven will soon be operational, providing 24-hour access via the myHyundai app to all electric vehicle users in the state.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Jae Wan Ryu, Function Head – Corporate Planning, HMIL said, “The electric vehicle market is expected to witness robust growth by 2030. Studies conducted by HMIL have highlighted that customers are hesitant to drive their electric vehicles for long journeys on highways due to lack of charging infrastructure. Keeping this in mind, HMIL has taken the initiative to install fast chargers for electric vehicles on key highways, in addition to major cities. Having access to HMC’s global electric vehicle and battery technology, HMIL is well positioned to build a comprehensive electric vehicle ecosystem in India. We are actively investing in infrastructure to support the expected growth in demand for electric vehicles. »
