PM orders strict action against rioters who damaged property in Islamabad

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated the government’s determination to maintain law and order, ordering authorities to take strict action against those involved in the riots, vandalism and damage to public and private properties.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Monday to review the law and order situation, Shehbaz warned against plots to destabilize the recovering economy through chaos. He stressed: “We will not allow any conspiracy to sabotage the stabilization of the economy by spreading unrest.”

He recalled that due to riots and vandalism, government and private properties in Islamabad were damaged, directing that steps be taken to take strict action against those responsible. The Prime Minister asked law enforcement agencies to ensure that no innocent citizen is arrested during the crackdown on those responsible for spreading the chaos.

He also called for an effective process to identify suspects and collect concrete evidence against them to ensure accountability.

Shehbaz ordered provision of all necessary resources to the task force created to combat corruption and disorder. He also requested that the federal public prosecutor’s office be placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice in order to streamline legal procedures against offenders.

Prime Minister Shehbaz has ordered the accelerated construction of Islamabad Jail, directing immediate release of funds to complete the project.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahad Cheema, Mohsin Naqvi, Azam Nazir Tarar, Attaullah Tarar and senior officials.
