UP government revives 7 ancient ghats along Yamuna, Ganga

In an important step to enhance the spiritual and cultural splendor of Prayagraj before Mahakumbh 2025, the Yogi Adityanath government has undertaken the revival of the city’s seven ancient ghats along Yamuna and Ganga with an investment of Rs 11 crore.

Taking inspiration from the transformation of Kashi’s Baba Vishwanath Corridor, these ghats are being restored to their original glory.

The project is expected to be completed before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-awaited visit on December 13, showcasing Prayagraj as a beacon of Sanatan’s culture and heritage.

Since the ghats of rivers Ganga and Yamuna are central to the activities of devotees and tourists visiting Maha Kumbh, as they serve as sacred places where pilgrims take holy baths, the Yogi government has undertaken this important initiative to give a boost from young to the ghats.

Jal Nigam’s construction and design division is leading the project.

Project manager Rohit Kumar Rana said the rejuvenation work, costing Rs 11.01 crore, is nearing completion and will be fully ready by December 11, ahead of PM Modi’s visit .

The seven ghats being transformed are Balua Ghat, Kalighat, Rasulabad Ghat, Chhatnag Ghat Jhunsi, Nageshwar Ghat Jhunsi, Mauj Giri Ghat and Purana Arail Ghat. The beautification and rejuvenation work is almost complete and the final touches are underway.

The Mela administration prioritizes top-notch facilities for devotees and tourists visiting the Maha Kumbh. To enhance the experience, the ghats are undergoing beautification efforts alongside the development of green belts to ensure cleanliness and visual appeal.

Inspired by the layouts of Kashi, these ghats are equipped with umbrellas, overhead lighting and drinking water facilities.

RO systems were installed to provide clean water, and portable toilets and changing rooms were installed for added convenience. Additionally, benches have been installed to provide comfortable seating for visitors.
