Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the country’s second-largest automaker, plans to establish around 600 public fast charging stations for electric vehicles across India over the next seven years. The expansion will prioritize key highways and major cities to meet growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.

By the end of 2024, the company aims to operationalize more than 50 DC fast public charging stations, spread across highways, cities and dealerships, according to a company release. So far, its charging network has supported around 50,000 sessions, distributing over 7.30 lakh units of energy to over 10,000 Hyundai and non-Hyundai electric vehicle users.

“The electric vehicle market is expected to witness robust growth by 2030. Studies by HMIL show that customers are often hesitant to use electric vehicles for long-distance highway travel due to poor infrastructure. limited recharge. HMIL has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to establish 100 electric vehicle charging stations across the state by 2027. Currently, three stations are functional at Spencer Plaza and BSR Mall in Chennai, as well as Hotel Seasons in Tiruvannamalai, and seven more are expected to become operational soon.
