A statue discovered on Cleopatra’s tomb would reveal the true face of the Egyptian queen.

An Egyptian-Dominican archaeological mission in collaboration with the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University, led by Dr. Kathleen Martinez, has discovered new artifacts and ceremonial objects from the late Ptolemaic period.

One of the most significant is a white marble statue of a woman adorned with a royal crown, which, according to a leading expert, reveals the face of Cleopatra VII, Daily News Egypt reported.

Martinez, an archaeologist who has been researching the tomb for nearly 20 years, believes the statue represents the true face of the queen, who reigned from 51 to 30 BC.

However, other experts disagree, noting several facial features that differ from known depictions of the queen. Instead, some have suggested that it depicts a princess from the Ptolemaic dynasty.

The team also found a mid-length statue of a king wearing the headdress of Nemes, 337 coins, many bearing the likeness of Queen Cleopatra VII, as well as ritual pottery, oil lamps, limestone vessels, bronze statues, a scarab amulet bearing the inscription “The Justice of Ra”. appeared” and a series of other artifacts.

The discoveries were made at the Taposiris Magna Temple, located west of Alexandria, under the southern wall of the temple’s outer perimeter.

The temple is connected to a complex system of deep tunnels that extend from Lake Mariout to the Mediterranean Sea.

A 2,000-year-old mummy with a golden tongue and other important artifacts have also been discovered in the tomb in recent years.
