Watch: Shraddha Kapoor on ‘Encouraging Time’ in Indian Cinema

Shraddha Kapoor, who starred in one of the biggest Hindi films of the year, Street 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank (Woman 2: The Terror of the Headless), stopped by the Deadline studio at the Red Sea Film Festival this week to discuss the success of the horror comedy and the influence of growing up in a famous family.

A sequel to the 2018 original, Street 2 released during the Independence Day period last August, and grossed $100 million worldwide.

In the video above, Kapoor says the first film helped “pave the way for other filmmakers to venture into horror comedy” and notes that the return to cinema post-pandemic is “encouraging for the Indian cinema in itself – whether it’s Hindi films, whether it’s Southern films, it’s a really encouraging time.

Kapoor, who has worked steadily since 2010, had a natural affinity for acting, she explained, having been surrounded by a creative family. Kapoor’s father is Shakti Kapoor, an actor who has appeared in some 700 films. His brother and aunts are also known in the industry.

The actress said it was “amazing to grow up in that environment,” but admitted that her father, because he wasn’t from an entertainment background and had to start from scratch, “made so it won’t be easy for me.” He made sure that the opportunities given to me were the result of hard work.

Kapoor discusses the projects she is considering with her family, she said. “There’s definitely a bounce of ideas… There’s naturally a lot of conversation at home, and more than just deciding what movie to make – because that’s something my dad always said I should decide for myself – same – it’s actually the work ethic that I talk to him about and that he inspires me to try to embody because he’s someone who kept his head down and worked hard. sincerely in the industry.

As for upcoming projects, Kapoor said she is finalizing her next two films, with plans to begin filming in 2025.
