Cape Central student’s puppet theater project aims to inspire young…

“It started with me going to the public library to ask for ideas on how I could help combat illiteracy, which then led to the creation of the puppet theater and storybooks,” said Godbey. “I went back, did some more research, and then decided to accept it.”

Godbey said she had to submit a proposal as part of the process. After making changes, her proposal was accepted and she began seeking donations from friends and family and building a support team to help her learn the necessary skills. She even traveled to Colorado to learn about woodworking from her aunt.

“I built my team of people, which helped me learn the skills I needed, like woodworking,” she said. “From there, it all built up. Eventually, I asked the strong people in my group to help me carry it to the public library, and I added the finishing touches.”

Godbey, who is also involved with the Beta Club and plays flute in the Cape Central marching band, said the project cost about $600 and took more than 100 hours.

Now that Godbey has completed his project and handed in all the necessary materials, all that’s left to do is wait.

“It’s not official yet, but I returned the paper,” Godbey said. “Hopefully I will see a result next month.”
