Tinubu commissions NIS Innovation Complex to strengthen Nigeria’s security and ease of business

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC), a facility established by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to improve Nigeria’s security infrastructure, streamline the ease of doing business and attract investors .

The commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday in Abuja, during which the President commended the NIS and the Ministry of Interior for their transformational efforts aimed at advancing Nigeria’s technological and security capabilities.

In his speech, President Tinubu highlighted the strategic importance of the complex in integrating air, land and maritime security.

This state-of-the-art complex comprises seven key components, including a data center, command and control center, visa approval center, ECOWAS card center, solar park and passport center. he said.

Boosting the economy through technology

The President highlighted the importance of technology and innovation as tools to drive Nigeria’s economic growth and societal transformation.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, attributed the success of the project to the visionary leadership and unwavering support of President Tinubu. He noted that the complex was delivered within a year, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to tangible progress.

Nigeria’s APIS Compliance

Commenting on the facility, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, said the NIS Digital Center completed under the leadership of the Minister of Interior signals Nigeria’s digital compliance with the AZ of the Advanced Passenger Information System, APIS, as stipulated. by ICAO by providing a new, modern and technology compliant system.

“The system protects our borders and strengthens national security. It has an 8.3 GB system and has 6 components.

“The modern facility works to detect suspicious travel patterns, select persons of interest, biometrics and 24-hour real-time surveillance, among others.” he explained.

According to the NIS, the complex commissioned by the president includes four different technology centers that are part of the administration’s drive to modernize digital innovation by transforming key security agencies.

These include:

  • The command and control center managed the API and Passenger Name Record (PNR) as well as the newly installed electronic gates at the country’s 5 international airports.
  • Nigeria Immigration Service Data Center – which is the central repository of data relating to the activities of the Service, will bring together all data from service exchanges with the public and store it for easy reference to guide planning and decision-making.
  • The ECOWAS Biometric Card Production Center– which is established for the production of standard and secure biometric cards for all ECOWAS citizens. This helps prevent counterfeiting and fraud that could endanger national security.
  • Indoor data centerwhich is the frontline center that facilitates real-time tracking and surveillance of border activities using advanced technologies such as video surveillance, drones and sensors; coordinates communication and response teams in the event of security breaches at the border for optimal success.
