Delhi LG mandates nodal officers in schools and colleges to comply with tobacco-free norms

Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has called for strict implementation of tobacco-free guidelines in educational institutions in Delhi. The initiative, launched as part of its ongoing campaign against drug abuse, aims to foster a healthier learning environment in schools and colleges.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the LG’s office revealed that nodal officers will be appointed in each educational institution to ensure compliance with the guidelines. The names and contact details of these agents will be prominently displayed in their respective institutions.

The directive follows the 9th review meeting of the State Level Narcotics Coordination Center (NCORD), during which Saxena stressed the need for strict implementation of tobacco control measures under the Directorate of Education and Department of Higher Education.

The LG directed the chief secretary to issue orders to appoint these officers and ensure compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. He further stressed the need to increase awareness about the dangers of tobacco use, initiate cessation programs and provide counseling services. for students and staff.

The initiative also addresses concerns raised by the Special Commissioner of Police (ANTF) regarding drug abuse in schools and colleges and the lack of adequate support systems for affected students and parents.

Through these measures, LG Saxena aims to create a safe and supportive educational atmosphere, reducing harmful habits and promoting student well-being.
