B.C.’s commissioner of teacher regulation has revoked the teaching qualification certificate of an Abbotsford teacher convicted of both assault and sexual assault.

In a newly released decision on October 16, Acting Commissioner Donnaree Nygard said Khaled Hanafi Dardir pleaded guilty in Surrey Provincial Court on April 14, 2023 to a sexual assault in September 2020 and two assaults in March and April 2021 .

The commissioner said criminal offenses could undermine public confidence in the teaching profession and the education system.

“His conduct occurred on multiple occasions and Dardir was violent toward an intimate partner and his conduct constituted a breach of trust that underlies such relationships,” Nygard said.

Nygard said Dardir was sentenced to 24 months probation, have no contact with the victim, complete counseling as directed and not possess any weapons for five years.

Nygard said the district disciplined Dardir in June 2092 for harassment and sexual harassment of a co-worker. In this case, he was suspended without pay and required to take remedial courses.

Nygard said in the consent resolution agreement that Dardir admitted the facts in the notice.

Nygard said that if Dardir applies for a K-12 teaching qualification, show officials can review the facts of the current case to determine his suitability to return to teaching.
