In the absence of a federal ban on abortion, Republicans are working to expand the scope of abortion bans in their states. The latest effort involves Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton suing a New York doctor for prescribing abortion pills to a Texas resident. Additionally, a growing number of lawmakers in red states are seeking to enact abortion travel bans against women who travel out of state to obtain the procedure. Legal experts say these efforts could violate the constitutional right to interstate travel.
