Expected price of the Kia Syros, dimensions, space and comfort, engine options

In addition to its current lineup of compact SUVs, Kia is all set to launch the Syros in India later this week. THE Syros (code name: AY) will have a more premium positioning than the Sonetwhich has a similar footprint of less than 4 meters, and will be equipped with new features. The prices are expected to be announced in January during its presentation at the Bharat Mobility Expo in Delhi.

  1. Kia Syros will have more rear seat space and features than Sonet
  2. Deliveries should begin at the end of January
  3. Syros will also receive an EV variant at a later stage

Kia Syros exterior design

Visually, the Syros’ most distinctive element is its tall, boxy design intended to open up more interior space. It gets a clamshell hood that houses a Kia 2D logo, beneath which sit LED headlights and vertically stacked DRLs. There is significant use of black cladding on the wheel arches and bumpers, and the alloy wheel design is also new and could measure up to 17 inches on higher variants. Additionally, the teasers so far reveal a body-colored B-pillar and a sharp, distinctive crease towards the rear quarter window that is reminiscent of the old Skoda Yeti. It also gets recessed door handles and L-shaped high-mounted taillights at the rear.

Kia Syros interior and features

Inside, Kia says, the Syros will offer a “lounge-like” experience, with “futuristic features and an innovative seating layout.” Kia also said that rear seat space will not only exceed that offered in the Sonet but also the Seltos by 4.3 meters. Additionally, it will include reclining rear seats, a feature currently exclusive to the Hyundai Venue in this segment.

The infotainment system is expected to be a 10.25-inch unit in higher trims, and it will likely feature a fully digital instrument cluster as well. The teaser images also show off a new tow-spoke steering wheel with buttons to control the infotainment system and terrain modes (mud, snow/wet and sand), front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera setup, a wireless charger, USB-C ports. , panoramic sunroof and an ADAS suite as well.

Kia Syros: engines, expected price

The Syros will be powered by the familiar 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and 1.5-litre diesel engines with their respective manual and automatic gearboxes. For reference, the former is tuned for 120 hp and 172 Nm, while the latter produces 116 hp and 250 Nm in the Sonet. However, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine offered in the entry-level Sonet variants is not part of the Syros’ engine family. This will be in line with Syros’ more premium positioning.

Being placed above the Sonet, whose turbo-petrol ranges from Rs 9.63 lakh to Rs 14.91 lakh (ex-showroom), we expect the Syros to debut at close to Rs 10 lakh and caps at over Rs 15 lakh. This may also result in some overlap with some variations of the Seltos.
