Vance tells Rogan he initially thought Trump was killed in July assassination attempt: ‘I was so upset’

Vice presidential candidate JD Vance told Joe Rogan he felt obligated to keep his family in the immediate aftermath of the first assassination attempt on former President Trump.

Vance appeared as a guest in an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” released Thursday, where he recalled his initial reaction to the assassination attempt on Trump at a July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Ohio senator was announced as Trump’s running mate two days later.

“I go home to Ohio, he got shot, you know, the first reaction was, actually, I thought they killed him, because when you see the video for the first “I was like, ‘Oh my God, they just killed him,’ and I was so upset,” Vance said.

“But then I go into fight or flight mode. With my kids, I’m like, you know, ‘All right, kids’ – We’re at a mini golf course in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’m grabbing my kids.” , I throw them in the car, I go home, I load all my guns, and I basically stand like a sentry at our front door and that was my… that was sort of my action.” , he said.

The two men discussed the assassination attempt, both agreeing that it was a particularly “bizarre” case. Vance noted how strange it was that the shooter was able to get so close.

“An AR-15 at 140 yards is one shot,” Vance said: later adding: “It’s shocking that (Trump) is alive.”

“I’m a religious person, but I think it’s a real miracle that this guy didn’t kill him,” Vance continued. “But how did he get so close? There are a lot of really big questions we should be asking.”

He remembers people screaming and trying to alert local law enforcement that there was a person on the roof.

“No one has responded, and it’s… it all seems very fishy to me,” Vance said. “And I hope we win and then get to the bottom of it, because I think someone clearly made a mistake.”

“This does not appear to be a ‘flaw,'” said the podcast host said. “Like the excuse the Secret Service lady had that they couldn’t put snipers on the roof because the roof was sloping? That’s all just bananas.”

“It’s ridiculous, it’s ridiculous,” Vance agreed.
