Here are the candidates for Ward 1 in the next Saskatoon municipal election

CTV News Saskatoon will profile each ward ahead of the Nov. 13 municipal election, starting with Ward 1.

Ward 1 includes areas north of downtown and the University of Saskatchewan.

Neighborhoods in the neighborhood include: City Park, Hudson Bay Park, Kesley-Woodlawn, Mayfair, North Park, Richmond Heights, Sutherland and Forest Grove.

Also included: Sutherland Industrial, U of S Lands — Southern Management Area and University of Saskatchewan Management Area.

As of June 2022, the neighborhood had approximately 26,000 residents, according to the Municipal Neighborhoods Commission report.

Here are the five candidates vying for the Ward 1 seat:


Kevin Boychuck

Kevin Boychuk is a local business owner and has lived in Ward 1 for 40 years.

He has coached hockey, volleyball, soccer and baseball.

Boychuck strives to meet the needs of the community through open communication, collaboration and thoughtful leadership.

Boychuck lost the Ward 1 seat in the 2020 civic election by 56 votes.

He is married and the father of three children.


Dallas Burnett

Dallas Burnett has been a resident of Saskatoon since 2016 and lives in Wards 4 and 1. He grew up in Borden.

He is assistant manager of the Sutherland Curling Club.

Among Burnett’s priorities are addressing homelessness, strengthening the downtown core and getting taxes right.


Darren Hill

Darren Hill is the incumbent for Ward 1. He has been a city councilor for 18 years.

He has worked in Saskatchewan’s tourism sector for three decades.

Among its goals are addressing infrastructure deficiencies, homelessness and community safety.

He has lived in Ward 1 for 38 years.


Catherine MacDonald

Kathryn MacDonald is a small business owner and mother.

She serves on the board of directors for the 33rd Street Business Improvement District.

If elected, MacDonald pledges to advocate for affordable housing, accessible sidewalks and maintaining safe and vibrant neighborhoods.

She has lived in Saskatoon for ten years.


Russell Nadin

Russell Nadin is an electrician.

He volunteers as a team leader with the Saskatoon Sage Clan to help unhoused people.

It focuses on solving issues related to housing, homelessness, public transportation and infrastructure.

Nadin is married and the father of two children.

Municipal elections are scheduled for November 13.
