Producers who lease Crown land for forage will not see an increase in their rental rates next year.

The provincial government is freezing the rate forecast for the 2025 growing season. This is to ensure Crown land leases remain affordable for Manitoba cattle producers, Agriculture Minister Ron Kostyshyn said Thursday , in a press release.

Last year, the province committed to increasing the temporary rent reduction planned for Crown farmland, essentially freezing rates at 2023 levels. Producers will not see an increase on their 2025 bills.

The government is also extending the deadline for farmers to submit an assessment report and request leased land improvement costs for leases expiring in 2024.

Producers rent this land for grazing, haying and annual crops.

“Manitoba’s Crown agricultural land lease holders work hard at what they do,” Kostyshyn said in a news release. “Our government is committed to ensuring affordability and this freeze will help producers meet the cost of their rent.
