By making an appearance on The pivotal podcast earlier this week, the former commander in chief addressed her daughter’s name change, poking a bit of fun at Malia’s decision.

“I was like, ‘You know they’ll know who you are,'” Barack, 63, said in the podcast episode released Tuesday, Oct. 29. “And she says, ‘You know what? I want them to watch it for the first time and not have that association in any way.’ So I think our girls are doing everything they can to not try to exploit that.”

“The challenge for (Michelle and me) is to be able to give them any help,” the politician continued. “I mean, they’re very sensitive about it. They’re very stubborn about it.”

Malia and Sasha were both in elementary school when their father was elected president and their family moved from Chicago to the White House. The two sisters now live together in Los Angeles, according to People.

While Malia works to make a name for herself in show business, Sasha, 23, is graduating in May 2023 from the University of Southern California (USC).
