EPFO Pension: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the deadline for employers to upload details of salaries etc to January 31, 2025. regarding 3.1 lakh pending pension claims on higher salaries. According to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, this extension was granted after multiple requests from employers and their associations requesting more time to complete the required submissions.

EPFO launched online facility in February 2023

An online application filing service was launched on February 26, 2023 by the EPFO for filing applications for validation of options/joint options for pension on higher salaries, in accordance with the Supreme Court judgment of 4 November 2022.

The facility was to remain available only until May 3, 2023. However, considering representations from employees, the deadline has been extended to June 26, 2023, in order to give a full four months to eligible retirees/members to submit requests. .

A final opportunity of 15 days has further been given to eliminate any difficulty faced by eligible retirees/members. Accordingly, the last date for submission of applications has been extended till July 11, 2023 and a total of 17.49 lakh applications have been received from retirees/members till July 11, 2023.

“In view of the representations received from employers and employers’ associations, in which requests were made to extend the deadline for uploading salary details, employers have been given several opportunities to submit salary details etc. online until September 30, 2023, then again until December 31. 2023, and thereafter until May 31, 2024,” he specifies.

Last opportunity until January 31, 2025

Despite so many extensions, it has been observed that more than 3.1 lakh requests for validation of options/joint options are still pending with employers. Employers have encountered difficulties uploading the required salary data, prompting further moves to extend the deadline.

Therefore, the ministry said a “final opportunity” was given to employers until January 31, 2025, to ensure they process and upload these pending applications.

In addition to extending the deadline for pending applications, the EPFO has also asked employers to provide updates or clarifications in over 4.66 lakh cases where additional information has been sought. Employers should respond by January 15, 2025 to ensure the process runs smoothly and in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directive.

This extension provides employers with the final opportunity to ensure that all pending pension validation applications are processed and uploaded, thereby fulfilling their obligations under the Supreme Court decision.
