Vancouver Island police say one suspect has been arrested and another is believed to have fled Canada after shots were fired at the home of a Punjabi musician in Victoria, last month.

The arrest took place in Ontario on Wednesday, according to West Shore RCMP, who said Abjeet Kingra, a 25-year-old Winnipeg resident, was charged with intentional discharge of a firearm and arson.

Kingra was expected to appear in court in Ontario on Thursday, police said.

A second suspect, Vikram Sharma, 23, was last residing in Winnipeg, but police believe he has since fled to India.

Sharma is wanted on the same charges Kingra faces.

The charges stem from a shooting that occurred at a home in the 3300 block of Ravenwood Road in Colwood, British Columbia on September 2.

Videos of the attack, including one apparently taken by the shooter, were widely shared online, showing at least 14 shots fired at the home of musician AP Dhillon.

The same day, police discovered two vehicles on fire on the same block.

Neighbors told CTV News they called 911 when they woke up to the sound of gunshots and heard a vehicle speeding away from the scene. They said the pickup truck that was burning in the home’s driveway eventually rolled into the garage door, setting the garage on fire before the flames were extinguished.

The Times of India newspaper reported that the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting, saying on social media that the attack was in response to a music video Dhillon shot with the Bollywood actor Salman Khan, with whom the group is said to have a long-standing relationship. quarrel.

Dhillon made history at the 2023 Juno Awards, becoming the first Punjabi musical group to be featured on the show.

In their case update Thursday, police described Sharma, the prime suspect, as a South Asian man, 5’9″ tall and weighing 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
