So Minnesota: Old Dutch Foods

It’s hard to eat just one chip.

A Minnesota company has been serving chips for nearly a century.

Old Dutch Foods was established in 1934 by Carl Marx in his Grand Avenue home in 1934.

“Dutch is known for their cleanliness and quality, so he chose Dutch, and then he put Old in front to make it look like the company has been around for a long time,” said Stephanie Aanenson of Old Dutch Foods.

About 600 employees now work for the company in Minnesota. The company sells its popular box of chips and salty snacks in several states in the Upper Midwest and across Canada.

“My dad always said if you don’t have pride in what you do, don’t fire it,” Aanenson said.

The house on Grand Avenue where the company was founded has a plaque commemorating the birthplace of the Old Dutch.
