Expect a cold snap this weekend.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Just in time for the first day of winter this Saturday, our temperatures will drop into the 40s. But before Saturday’s cold front, we’ll have to get through today. Today’s cold front triggers a shift in the wind to the north. This will move into slightly cooler, drier air. Today our daytime high temperatures will be closer to average, which is 75, but still slightly above normal at 77 or 78 degrees. The chance of rain will end with the arrival of drier air.

The northward airflow will continue through tomorrow with temperatures falling into the mid 70s. Again, drier air will prevent precipitation and skies will be sunny. Winds could strengthen a little during the evening and night on Friday due to the approach of a second cold front. This one will be more powerful and will drop nighttime temperatures into the mid 40s. Daytime highs will reach the mid 60s. That means most of the day will be in the 50s. So get ready. you for the first day of winter, which is Saturday.

The outlook for Christmas indicates that forecasts are currently unreliable. The big models were lucky about a dry Christmas. Now the facade which was to be delivered after Christmas should arrive on Christmas Day. If this is true, we could see a few rain showers developing in the second half of Christmas day. It is too early to know and several additional runs of the models are required before a forecast can be made with a higher level of confidence.
