UGC-NET (University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test) is one of the most prestigious examinations in the country, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorships and Fellowship. junior research (JRF).

The written exam is scheduled to take place January 1-19, 2025, in a computer-based test (CBT) format. Passing this exam opens doors to advanced academic research opportunities and teaching positions at renowned universities across the country.

UGC NET is a national level online examination conducted twice a year (June and December). Applicants with a master’s degree meeting the required grades are eligible.

The exam takes place online in a single session lasting three hours. It includes two tests: Paper I, with 50 questions worth 100 points, and Paper II, with 100 questions worth 200 points.

Reflecting an initiative to integrate traditional Indian knowledge into the structure of higher education, the UGC-NET has, for the first time, included Ayurvedic Biology as a new subject from the December 2024 cycle.

PREPAREDNESS STRATEGY

As the exam approaches, it is crucial to fine-tune your preparation and optimize your strategies for success. Anil Nagar, Founder & CEO of Adda247, shares a detailed guide to help you navigate your preparation, optimize your strategies, and ace the exam.

1. UNDERSTAND THE PROGRAM

The UGC-NET program is structured to test both general aptitude and subject-specific knowledge. Paper I tests general teaching and research skills on topics such as comprehension, reasoning, logical thinking, and general awareness. This document is essential for assessing a candidate’s ability to engage in roles in higher education.

Paper II focuses on the candidate’s chosen discipline, from a list of 81 disciplines, and tests their in-depth knowledge of that subject. Creating a daily preparation schedule will help you stay on track and ensure that you devote sufficient time to both documents, allowing for systematic review and in-depth coverage of the syllabus.

2. CHOOSE THE RIGHT STUDY MATERIAL

Many students make the mistake of relying on a single resource, which can create gaps in their knowledge. At the same time, using too many materials can be confusing. Instead, select a few reliable books, guides, or online resources and master them carefully. Remember to cross-reference the study material with the official syllabus to ensure that no topic is overlooked.

3. USE POSTGRADUATION BOOKS FOR CONCEPTUAL CLARITY

Students are recommended to use their PG content and books for UGC-NET preparation. They provide solid conceptual understanding, in-depth explanations, and crucial examples to build a strong knowledge base. These resources align well with the curriculum and are ideal for covering foundational concepts.

4. FOCUS ON SIMPLE TESTING AND REVIEW:

Mock tests are essential in your preparation strategy. Regularly attempting full-length tests under timed conditions will improve your speed and accuracy, help you identify weak areas through error analysis, and familiarize yourself with the computer-based testing (CBT) format.

After each mock test, evaluate and evaluate your progress to understand where you need to improve. Consistent review is also essential; Frequent review of previously covered topics ensures better memorization and reduces the risk of forgetting important concepts as the exam approaches.

5. STAY FOCUSED AND BALANCED

Staying focused and maintaining a calm demeanor is crucial. Avoid any last-minute cramming and trust your preparation. To manage exam stress and maintain your concentration, you can use the Pomodoro technique during your preparation.

This involves working in short, focused intervals of 25 minutes followed by a 5 minute break. After four cycles, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.

This technique helps prevent mental fatigue, improves concentration and productivity, ensuring you stay fresh and perform at your best during the exam.

On exam day, it is important to balance your approach to Paper I and Paper II. Make sure you allocate enough time for both papers, as both contribute significantly to your overall score.
