The No. 9 Tennessee Vols and No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes will face off in the first round of the College Football Playoff (CFP). The game will take place at Ohio Stadium in Columbus on Saturday, December 21 and is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Tennessee is 10-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Ohio State was also 10-2 overall, but 7-2 in conference play.

The CFP moved to a 12-team playoff format that allows the highest-ranked winners of the top four conferences to advance to the top four seeds. The highest-ranked winner of a fifth conference will take the 12th seed, if the team is not seeded higher than 12. The rest of the playoff field is filled by ranking in a bracket published by the committee CFP. The top four seeds get a first-round bye.

The winner of Tennessee against Ohio State will face the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl.
