Humidity increases as we observe the tropics

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – High pressure will continue to be the dominant weather factor in our weekend weather forecast. As the high pressure system slowly moves eastward, we will see yesterday’s dry air slowly become more humid and capable of supporting a few showers. Saturday will likely be dry and Sunday dry as well, but with additional clouds and higher humidity. Early next week we will see better chances for a few showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two.

The big question in forecasting is what might develop in the tropics. The Hurricane Center is currently monitoring several locations for possible development. Models have been aggressive in developing several storms over the past week, but none of them have actually become a reality. However, they emphasize that the area is ideal for development if various elements align, and it ultimately appears that will be the case by next week.

There is still very little agreement between models on the details of what might develop and, if anything, what impacts Suncoast might experience. But confidence is built by seeing something develop and usually drift north. Once something actually grows, we will have a better idea of where it may go and what kind of conditions may exist to hinder or support its development.

Stay up to date with the forecast for the weekend. Often, storms that develop in the Caribbean have a short fuse and provide little warning time.
