Blue Jays ‘spark interest’ in $33 million All-Star double

The Toronto Blue Jays had a season to forget in 2024. After two straight years in the playoffs as a Wild Card team, the team fell flat, going 74-88 and missing the playoffs after finishing in last place in the American League East.

They have some questions to answer, as the franchise’s two cornerstones, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., are in the final year of their contracts, which could make 2025 a make-or-break year for the Blue Jays.

However, according to Ken Rosenthalthey are interested in Bichette.

“The Jays are in talks with Guerrero about a long-term extension that would allow him to come out of his final year of arbitration and free agency. They are showing interest in Bichette, who is also entering his senior year. And they are at least on the “periphery of the Bregman sweepstakes, although other free agents, for now, seem a better fit,” Rosenthal wrote.

Bichette could fetch big money if the Blue Jays end up trading him, and that might be their best course of action heading into 2025. They could land some solid prospects in exchange for the star shortstop instead of losing him for nothing more than a compensation draft pick.

The 26-year-old shortstop had a rough season in 2024, hitting .225/.277/.322 with four homers, 31 RBIs and a poor .598 OPS, although he was limited to only 81 games due to injuries.

If he can stay healthy, he could bounce back in 2025, but now may be the best time for Toronto to capitalize on his value.
