Derby: prison for rapist who laughed during attack on student

A statement read on his behalf by Miss Knight said: “This whole affair has stolen years of my life. I feel like I’m just in survival mode.”

Sentencing Thompson, Judge James Carter said: “(Your offending) has had a significant impact on (the rape victim’s) confidence. She is now hyper-vigilant and feels haunted by what you did to her.”

In the second attack, Thompson kissed the victim on the lips against her will, before forcefully pushing her against her car door.

David Young, defending, said although it was no excuse for his offending, Thompson had experienced anxiety following the death of his father.

In addition to the prison sentence, a restraining order was placed against each complainant involved in the case.
