The Eastern Cape government says it is ready to re-establish relief centers for initiated who are in distress during this traditional rite of passage.

Doctors and nurses will run the centers to prevent further deaths.

The current tally for the summer initiation season stands at 20 young men.

Provincial Ministry of Cooperatives and Traditional Affairs MEC Zolile Williams says: “We will now engage doctors who align with each group of people who practice traditional circumcision to do rounds at the school, so that they can intervene and advise on what needs to be done. to save lives, as we are currently doing with the NGO Right to Know, where doctors are on site to help, but their capacity is quite limited.
