There are currently around 30 lifesaving devices in Weston-super-Mare, but Mr Bell said more than 100 more were needed.

“With the growth of Weston-super-Mare… they want them back within a three minute walk. So a one minute five walk to the defib and back to the patient.”

He said Howards Motor Group had a defibrillator at each site and the charity was also working with Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance to provide more.

More recently, these devices have been used to save lives at Revo Kitchen, along the seafront, and the town’s George and Dragon pub, both in recent weeks, he added.

They have also been used on golf courses, local schools and churches.
